Out of the darkness and into the light
We walk to remember those taken from our sight
Taken by sorrow and hopelessness and despair
Taken by depression and the emotions that impair
We walk in remembrance, we walk to find solace
We walk in shell-shocked disbelief
That are loved ones are not beside us
Through the miles and twists and turns
It all starts to sink in
We are here and this is real
Horror suddenly begins
But we look around at our fellow survivors
And in them we find comfort and calm
A camaraderie and strength in numbers
That offers a healing balm
When all in your soul
Wants to, overcome by grief, run
Instead you walk and walk
Toward the shining sun
Hoping to inspire
The world to pay attention
Hoping they will join the fight
In memory of loved ones mentioned
Hoping they will take notice
And look for the signs
Hoping that they will reach out
To the many hurting minds
We walk to remember
We walk to forget
A labor of love
That says,
It’s not over, not yet
We walk to shine a spotlight
We walk the silence to end
Never forget why we walk
And that we walk, amongst friends…
A walk to find peace
A walk to raise awareness
Our loved ones smile over us
And their souls whisper… “yes”
Walk to remember me,
Walk to ease the pain
But never let others forget
That I have a name
“I will walk beside you”, they whisper
Their presence there is real
Out of the darkness and into the light
We walk, we love, we feel.
Such a beautiful poem of hope and healing. God bless!
